Winning a Bid Against International Competition

Client

The British Orthodontic Society

Event

International Orthodontic Congress: 10 – 14 June, 2015

Requirements

The British Orthodontic Society required help in bringing the 2015 International Orthodontic Congress to London. This 3 day event hosts over 10,000 delegates and is bid for by competing international organisations.

Event Solution

A successful bid for an event of this scale requires an organisation that understands the potential of London, and one that can work closely with the right people to ensure total backing for the bid.

Drawing on Visit London’s close relationships with civil authorities and conference venues, our associations team mobilised support from the Princess Royal, the Prime Minister, the Mayor of London and key London decision-makers, securing undertakings of support for the congress to be held in the city.

Visit London were absolutely brilliant in helping put together the bid document, the quality of which undoubtedly helped secure the bid despite fierce international competition

– Jonathan Sandler, British Orthodontic Society

A top-class venue is a key component in successfully bidding for an event of this magnitude, so we recommended ExCeL London, the largest business venue in the capital, to ensure the support of their team in hosting the congress.

ExCeL London’s proximity to accommodation, leisure attractions and transport hubs further ensured the success of the bid.

After carefully detailing the client’s requirements, our associations team compiled a professional document with CD and DVD presentation to emphasise the city’s support for the bid. This document and resources also underlined the quality of infrastructure and leisure attractions provided by the city, and demonstrated the value London offers an event of this scale.

The British Orthodontic Society was ultimately successful in winning the bid, thanks to the free assistance and expertise offered by Visit London.
