Pan European Federation of the International Association of Dental Research
Event
4th Scientific Meeting of the Pan European Federation of the international Association of Dental Research
10-12 October 2008
Requirements
With previous events being held in a range of international capital cities it was essential not only to deliver a creditable scientific programme but a destination and venue that would be attractive to a wide range of delegates with an equally diverse profile and budget.
With the original bid won in 2003 through a partnership of Visit London, QEII Conference Centre and Meeting Point Conferences, the on-going support from all involved was essential for success.
Requirements included:
- International city profile
- Conference venue to accommodate a minimum of 1400 delegates, 12 symposia, 50 stand exhibition and numerous satellite conferences
- Range of accommodation from budget to 5-star
- Tourist & visitor profile for pre and post conference tours
- Proven track record in servicing and an understanding of the practical drivers that a self-financing association event needs to be successful
Event solution
The partnership between ourselves, the QEII and Visit London, combined with London's international profile ensured a successful event, both scientifically and financially.
- William Jeavons, Director, Meeting Point ConferencesThe QEII provided a venue with all of the facilities required for the main conference under one roof, and a team of staff who are used to managing large full site-let international conferences. The venue's location in the heart of Westminster added a profile and interest for delegates especially those visiting from abroad.
Using the Natural History Museum for the gala dinner and Trinity House for a VIP event emphasised the cultural diversity the city has to offer.
Choosing a London based PCO to deliver a full range of services from project feasibility, event marketing, branding and sponsorship sales to on-line delegate booking, venue management, accommodation bookings and event delivery was essential.
Delegate numbers exceeded all expectations at more than 1,600 and included a record breaking 900+ abstract submissions.
Visit London's continued support from bid to delivery meant the welcome was all the more friendly and genuine.
"Having been involved in quite a few conferences, this is genuinely the first one I am aware of when I have not heard a single comment of dissatisfaction." said Francis J Hughes, Conference Chair.
