Tower Bridge balloon stunt launches Disney Pixar’s Up

Marketing agency Beatwax navigated a hot air balloon through the open bascules of Tower Bridge in a dramatic stunt to celebrate the UK premiere of the Disney Pixar film 'Up'.

The 150-kg balloon made its way up-stream from Wapping at around 5am on 02 October, arriving at Tower Bridge 15 minutes later.

Weighing the same as a baby elephant, the balloon has been designed to replicate a scene from the movie, in which a 78-year-old balloon salesman ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies off to South America.

The promotional balloon has been travelling across Europe over the past few weeks, visiting famous landmarks to enhance the film's publicity and bring the story to life.

Visit London's Event Solutions service assisted on the logistics of the stunt, working with the City of London and the Port of London Authority.
