Brits sign deal to stay at Earls Court
The Brit Awards organiser has confirmed that Earls Court will host the music event in February 2009.
The BPI and EC&O Venues have signed a deal to stage the Brits at the West London venue for a tenth time.
Nigel Nathan, Managing Director at EC&O Venues, said that rumours of the event moving had been greatly misinterpreted. “There has been some confusion but the fact is the Brits work well at Earls Court. This is due to its prime West London location, its flexibility of space plus the experience and knowledge of the venue team. The BPI has been offered other deals from other venues, but was keen to stay with us. We’re delighted with this outcome and look forward to working with the BPI next year to produce another successful awards ceremony.”
The Brits, a UK music industry institution, were first held at Earls Court in 1996. They returned, after a two-year break in 2000. The 2008 awards held in February saw 4,650-seated music industry guests treated to a three-course meal, served ahead of the live ITV broadcast. At this year’s ceremony, Paul McCartney received the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award.
