Earls Court launches vegetable and herb roof garden

Capital of Growth scheme

EC&O Venues, in conjunction with the Real Food Festival, has created a roof garden at Earls Court as part of a London Development Agency scheme to transform vacant land into green spaces to grow food by 2012.

The Capital Growth scheme is the brainchild of Rosie Boycott, Chair of London Food. She is looking to encourage land owners to turn over 2,012 areas to grow vegetables and herbs on.

The Real Food Festival took place at Earls Court between 8-10 May. Visitors were given tours of the venue's roof garden and were able to see UK chefs in action, as well as meet food and drink producers from across the country.

Show Director Philip Lowery said: "We are delighted to be getting involved with the LDA's Capital Growth Scheme, which aims to get more people growing food in our capital city. To be able to create this growing space on one of London's most iconic buildings is a huge bonus and we are really pleased that Earls Court is as excited about the idea as we are."
