London interest in chess set to rise with 8-day Olympia event
Olympia Conference Centre will stage the first in a series of UK events designed to rejuvenate interest in the game of chess and its educational benefits.
The London Chess Classic 2009 tournament will take place from 8-15 December. It will be the highest level tournament played in London for 25 years and will feature England's four leading Grandmasters alongside a world-class field that includes former world champion Vladimir Kramnik and 18-year-old Magnus Carlsen - currently ranked world number three.
Olympia will host the tournament within a 400-seat soundproof auditorium, with two commentary rooms, presentation areas and ample space for speed chess side games and junior training sessions.
Organiser Malcolm Pein from the London Chess Centre said: "We are delighted to have secured an outstanding venue in the Olympia Conference Centre that is in keeping with the prestige of the event. Olympia will provide a quality spectator experience for both visitors and online viewers."
Tickets will be made available for the event at www.chess.co.uk
