The new £78m Darwin Centre at the Natural History Museum has been opened by Prince William.
The venue features an eight-storey cocoon housing 17 million insect specimens and three million plant specimens. Visitors are able to see scientists at work in newly created laboratories as well as visit the Attenborough Studio, named after the television naturalist.
Event planners can use the Natural History Museum's new wing to host sit-down dinners for 150 guests or 350 for a drinks reception. The Darwin Centre's events space provides guests with access to a landscaped garden, and can be combined with the Natural History Museum's array of exhibition spaces and galleries.
The Darwin Centre's opening ceremony was produced by events agency Smyle. During the ceremony, Prince William said: "As the superb new facilities of the Darwin Centre show, the Natural History Museum and the dedicated people who work here are at the very forefront of research, seeking out through study of the natural world the answers to the great questions of our age."
