London Heathrow has reinforced its position as a key gateway to the capital with a dedicated online meetings resource and the opening of a five-star Sofitel.
The area surrounding Heathrow airport offers seven four-star meeting properties including London Heathrow Marriott Hotel, Sheraton Heathrow and Hilton London Heathrow Airport. Hotel details along with sample itineraries, maps, transport information and post-conference activity ideas can be found within Visit London's online resource www.londonheathrowgateway.com
5-star Sofitel London Heathrow
The area's first five-star property, the £180m Sofitel London Heathrow, opened its doors for business on 7 July. Adjoining Terminal 5 of Heathrow Airport, the hotel offers conferencing for up to 1,700 delegates. The 605-room Sofitel London Heathrow has 45 meeting rooms, the largest of which can cater for a dinner or reception for 1,000 guests. It also boasts a 117-seat tiered auditorium with widescreen cinema and three state-of-the-art boardrooms.
The luxury hotel connects directly to the airport via a link bridge into one of five steel and glass atriums. Hotel features include a lobby bar, tea salon, cocktail bar, health spa and gym plus extensive undercover car parking.
KCA International Designers designed the hotel around the concept of 'the gateway to the world'. Themes of continent and country can be seen throughout the property. Antarctica takes the central focus in the hotel's reception area with a water fountain centrepiece, which cascades out from a mirrored ceiling onto floodlit ice blocks.
The adjoining public areas encompass themes of Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas. The hotel's four-room categories comprise superior, deluxe, executive and suites. Central London can be reached in 21 minutes via the Heathrow Express rail service.
