UK event suppliers fund pancreatic cancer research

Howard’s Way Walk

The UK events industry has raised £76,000 to fund pancreatic cancer research after one its own, Howard Kerr, was diagnosed with the fatal disease at the age of 47.

On 18 April, Howard Kerr and colleagues from Gallowglass, Land Rover, RPM and trade body Eventia completed an 87-mile walk in three days.

The Howard’s Way Walk across The Ridgeway from the counties of Hertfordshire to Wiltshire raised £35,126.

The following month, a gala dinner, charity auction and entertainment at London's Riverbank Park Plaza Hotel raised another £40,899. Donated auction prizes included a Range Rover for a weekend, signed flying suit from the Red Arrows and four tickets to Hurlingham Tennis. Entertainment included covers band Fake Tan, singer songwriter Rob Bowden and singer Stephanie Grace.

The money raised will help fund a research student in the search for a cure to pancreatic cancer.

Matt Storey from crewing supplier Gallowglass is planning a London-versus-Henley fundraising cricket match at the end of June, which is likely to add to the total.
