Karen Webb has joined Visit London to consult on the legacy of events for the Olympic Park.
Webb, who has over 12 years experience within the Olympic Movement, will work with the Events for London team to identify specific opportunities for major events to take place in the Olympic Park within the period 2011 to 2016.
Webb will also work closely with the Mayor of London's office and the teams within the LDA, GLA and the Olympic Park Legacy Company.
Events for London recently completed a research project, led by Cambridge University, to identify key actions necessary to secure major events in the Olympic Park both pre and post the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
The research findings will now be developed by Webb into a detailed major events' legacy report. The final report will highlight the potential opportunities for each of the Olympic Park venues to host either major sporting or entertainment events. The report will also highlight both the social and economic benefits of hosting events in each venue, and if viable, at least one major event in the Olympic Park pre-Games.
Webb brings with her over 22 years of brand, marketing and communications experience. She was with the International Olympic Committee for over seven years and previously with the Sydney 2000 Organising Committee. Webb comes to Visit London from sports business communications consultancy VERO where she was a Director.
Sally Chatterjee, interim Chief Executive of Visit London said: "We are delighted that Karen has agreed to join our Events for London team. Karen has over a decade of specialist knowledge of the international sports movement and her presence will accelerate what is an already exciting project for the city."
Webb said of her new role: "The Olympic Park provides a significant opportunity for London to further attract major events to this great city. I am pleased to be given this role and look forward to the challenge."
