St James's Park office promotes Great Outdoors campaign

Office workers were encouraged to take their work outside for two days in July with the opening of an Outdoor Office in St James's Park.

The Outdoor Office was part of Visit London's Great Outdoors campaign. The initiative aims to inspire people to make the most of London's green spaces.

The office was situated in St James's Park, overlooking the lake just off Birdcage Walk. It came complete with Wi-Fi, a reception area, boardroom, creative room, work desk area and even a water cooler. London office workers were asked to bring their meetings or to hot-desk in the park. Areas could be reserved for up to two hours and a receptionist was on hand to co-ordinate the bookings.

More than 30% of London is green space

James Bidwell, Visit London Chief Executive said: "There are literally hundreds of green spaces in the capital, but Londoners often spend too long in the office to get out and enjoy them. The Outdoor Office enables Londoners to get back to nature during the working day."

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson said: "You don't have to leave London to get away from it all. Londoners are spoilt for choice when it comes to parks and open spaces. From Mitcham Common in the South to Friary Park in the North, our city is full of village greens, heaths, piazzas, squares and gardens. I encourage all Londoners to make the most of our capital's opportunities for outdoor living this summer."
