London will be transformed into an extreme sports playground in September as the second annual Rat Race gets underway.
From 27-28 September, adventurers who sign up to the Rat Race will face sporting challenges and activities across the capital. Organised by Detail Events, the two-day adventure starts with a foot-based Mean Streets challenge. Participants set out to collect as many checkpoints as possible in a three-hour period. The main event is the Rat Race Adventure. Once the Mean Streets section is complete, participants will embark on an adventure city-wide that covers around 65km by bike, boat, foot and rope.
Last year’s inaugural event saw challenges that included a free-hanging abseil off the stands at Twickenham Stadium and a hunt for jellied eels around Petticoat Lane. This year, a six-metre high washing machine will form the Over the Moon challenge. Participants will need to climb, traverse and descend the giant Indesit Moon washing machine to complete a challenge.
The competition is open to corporate companies as well as individual participants. For company teams, there is a Rat Race The Business class, which includes access to a VIP enclosure, fast track registration and its own class prize. The 2007 winners of The Business won an all expenses paid 5-star trip to Edinburgh to take part in the Edinburgh Rat Race.
Jim Mee, Managing Director of Detail commented: "The Rat Race is all about doing the unfamiliar in a familiar environment. Most of us live and work in cities; the Rat Race is designed to encourage people to use these spaces as our playgrounds as well. London has an abundance of famous places and green spaces and competitors can be assured that we will be making the most of them."
