One Wimpole Street, home to the Royal Society of Medicine, has achieved Visit London Gold partner status.
The purpose-built conference centre is located in the heart of London's West End and has 13 meeting rooms spread over five floors.
The venue's main lecture theatre can seat 300 delegates for presentations. More than 300 guests can be hosted for a reception by combining the Max Rayne Atrium with the Events Dining Room.
"We decided to join Visit London following excellent feedback from neighbouring events venues regarding the international exposure and member support offered by the capital's tourism and convention body," said One Wimpole Street Conference and Event Manager Craig Wallace. "We are only one of two London venues that are BS8901 certified so our customers can be assured that we apply the highest standards of sustainable management to all events hosted here at the Royal Society of Medicine."
No 1 Wimpole Street was opened for the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) by King George V and Queen Mary in May 1912. In 1953 the building saw the addition of a fourth floor and the extension of the Library to the second floor. In 1981 the association acquired the adjoining building. This extension allowed the Royal Society of Medicine to extend its premises and facilities within the shell of the former post office building. In 1986 the Society occupied an extended and refurbished house, opened on 2 July 1986 by HM Queen Elizabeth II and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh. The building underwent further extensive remodelling between 2003 and 2004 resulting in the Main Lecture Theatre, strengthened floors, refurbishment of the Library and the re-opening of the Henrietta Place entrance.
Recent events at One Wimpole Street have included the re-branding of Channel Five television, a Sustainable Events Summit and GW Pharmaceuticals' third annual Scientific Review Conference.
