Top Venues Drive London Trade Show Dominance
London staged almost half of all trade shows held in the UK last year, according to recent research.
The Facts, published annually by the Events Industry Alliance, found that 145 trade events were held in London during 2006, this represents 45% of all trade events held in the UK.
By comparison, 30% of trade events were held in the West Midlands, home to the Birmingham NEC.
According to the report, average attendance for trade events held at ExCeL London was 12,752 – more than 86% higher than the industry average of 6,837.
ExCeL London is home to eight of London's top 10 trade events including World Travel Market, Salon International, Hotelympia and Food Ingredients Europe.
London hosted 120 consumer events in 2006, compared with 71 held in the West Midlands. ExCeL London hosted 31 shows including The British International Motor Show and The London Boat Show.
ExCeL London Deputy Chief Executive Kevin Murphy said: "The Facts prove beyond doubt how our business has continued to flourish and grow over the last few years. It’s crucial to us that the events hosted at our venue are a success and I’m delighted that the Facts speak for themselves."
